As we all know, I don’t have a lot of disposable income. This means I have to seriously curb my love of subscription boxes. That’s why I was so thrilled when I heard about Nadine West from the blog In a Pretty Package. I’ve wanted to try a clothing sub for a long time, but the cost is absolutely prohibitive- but Nadine West is FREE to receive the shipment you ONLY pay for what you keep. Like many (all?) clothing subs you first fill out your style quiz which helps personalize your shipments. You DO have to leave your credit card information with them- so they can charge you for anything you decide to keep- before you can receive the sub.
My first box arrived right before we went away for my birthday, giving me just enough time to try things on and make decisions. You do have an ample amount of time (ten days, if I’m remembering correctly) to make your decisions and send everything back. Fortunately this month my decisions were easy. Let’s see how it went:
Nadine West sends out the items in a pink bubble mailer, the same mailer you get to use if you need to make returns (the stick on label is inside, ready to help you reuse the mailer).
The items were in a plastic baggie and wrapped up in nice pink tissue paper.
The first thing I looked at was the info sheet, which included the names and prices of the items, as well as space to leave feedback about them. There were also comprehensive instructions for keeping/returning your selection.
The first Item on the list was the “Party in the Back” tank top. This had a sheer, flowing back that was lower than the front. The fabric was very lightweight but when I tried it on my bright blue bra didn’t show through at all in the front.
This was a fun, flowy top and I did like it, but I didn’t love it, and I’m trying to steer clear of adding unnecessary casual pieces to my wardrobe. I opted to return this piece, even though I wouldn’t call it a miss.
The next item was the blue bubble drop earrings. I was cautious about allowing them to send me earrings. None of the jewelry/fashion subs I’ve created profiles for have had the options to select a preferred earring back, and I will not wear stud earrings, making this feel like a gamble. Well, the back of these earrings were my usual hook style, but these big blue balls (yup.) just did not appeal to me.
I tried to get my fingers in there as a size compassion- these earrings were larger than my thumb and just far too large to appeal to me. Blue is my favorite color though, so had these been smaller I probably would have kept them.
The “Deep Sea Treasure Statement” was the most intriguing piece on the slip and I was so excited to see it. When I finally saw it, I was blown away. Even though this was the most expensive piece in the box it is 100% my style, a look I’ve been coveting, and just absolutely perfect for me. I kept it.
I want to wear this everywhere, it is so amazing.
My first Nadine West box was a huge success, even though I only kept one item. Seriously I love that necklace so much, it was the perfect birthday present to myself. I feel that even with my low income I can still justify getting one (maybe two) really nice pieces a month, and this necklace was definitely that thing.
Many people I’ve told about this question there ability to exercise self control. With the items sent this month I found it very easy to send back the two items I didn’t absolutely love though I imagine some months might be more of a struggle than others. This is something I definitely encourage everyone who likes subscription boxes and fashion to check out, after all you have almost nothing to lose!
